2020 HO Unimpressed Test Drive

Does the 3500 Cummins HOmdrive that differently than the non HO?

The AISIN has a deeper 1st gear so an unladen launch will be slower than the 68RFE trucks, and does have firmer shifts than the 68RFE. I often say it shifts like a bus, but that's honestly a bit of an overstatement.

When it hooks 2nd, 3rd gear, etc. it hauls.

Ok well i ordered a banks pedalmonster and am wondering if anyone has input to what settings they are running. the moderator moved my post to the performance area even though the banks is not a performance upgrade.

Just a update to this thread I started. It always annoys me when I find a older thread of interest and never see the OP update it. I purchased a New 2020 3500 SRW HO/Aisin to remplace my totaled 2017 3500. The truck runs, shifts and drives super smooth. I don't know if the 3.73 gears with 33" tires on the SRW vs the 4.10 with 31" tires on the DRW make it feel different, but it is a much better shifting truck than the first one I drove. The shifts are very firm and precise. I will say the torque management is still present but not as bad. Hopefully this helps someone else that may be considering the HO/Aisin combo

I agree with you on the above, same truck on order and drove a fresh 20 last week and honestly coming from a 20 6.7 ford I much preferred the Aisin HO, I feared the worse and it was not bad at all unloaded. When it’s locked 2nd and up and you put your foot in it there’s no bs like the ford does, unloaded it was breaking the tires loose just using the available torque. My other truck is an 05 NV5600 tuned to about 450 rwhp and this new HO finally gives me that feel with all the modern tech inside. The ford is blah and all plastic, when ford updates in 2022 we’re going to see an epic battle in the hd segment with new hd ram cabs, I want a quad cab long bed so darn bad.

BTW does your new truck have adaptive steering?? That’s the sole reason I even tried a ford because I didn’t know I could get it on the new ram, it totally changes the hd driving experience for the better. All Ram adaptive trucks now use an electro hydraulic setup like the Fords and it feels amazing, totally different feel!!

I had a 14 mega 68rfe ran good pulled good . My 2020 HO3500 with factory air rides better and accelerates like it is on fire . Must be an anomaly . You have to drive them for a while and the truck learns your way of driving .

I was looking in my 2020 manual and could find nothing on adaptive steering . Does anyone knoo what model year it is on and can you change the input ?

Guess its automatic . I can't seem to feel a difference .

I just took delivery of a 2020 3500 HO SRW. I traded in a 2019 F-350 so I was ready for the "lack of acceleration" and the other complaints about the AISIN. While I can feel the difference from a stop (torque management has to be in play), the Cummins HO is a monster when it comes to everything else.

I don't know if my truck has it or not?

I got it . I just thought there were different programmable levels . Kind of like how you can change the lane control .

So I had a 2020 power stroke with the 10 speed and now have a Ram cummins with the 68rfe.

Here's how I rank them in comparison
Seat comfort-Ford, hands down.
Steering-Ford
Acceleration-Ford
Cab size-Ford
Bed size-Ford
Visibility-Ford
Def use-Ford
Sound System-Ford

Interior-Ram
Towing uphill-Ram
Towing Stability-Ram
Touchscreen-Ram
Trailer hookup-Ram
User friendly-Ram

Whenever I would have to go uphill with my trailer in the Ford, the truck would hesitate and then shift into 4th. I liked the 10 speed but not towing. I think the 68rfe tows better. The cummins is slower off the line but not by much. The def use is very high compared to the ford. My Laramie seats suck compared to the seats I had in my ford.

All subjective on comfort. Ford seats IMHo don’t holed a candle to Ram. Bed size ? Ram has 3 different sizes . Does Ford have one we don’t know about ? Def use is solely dependent on load . You ride around empty it lasts forever .

Site rule #1 violation. Keep it civil. The next aggressive shouting outburst from you will come with a timeout.
The shortbox on the Ram 2500/3500 is smaller than the short box on the F-250/F-350, smart guy! The seats in a 2020 Platinum are more comfortable in my opinion than the seats in a 2019+ Laramie or Limited Ram 2500/3500. I'm on the Ram site to build one and I see two bed options 6'4" and 8' beds. Where is the third? What is the third? I DO THE SAME AMOUNT OF TOWING AND DRIVING AROUND UNLOADED AS I DID WITH THE FORD AND TRUST ME THE RAM USES MORE DEF! PERIOD SMART GUY! DON'T START SOMETHING THAT YOU CANT BACK UP WITH FACTS! HAVE YOU OWNED A 2020 SUPER DUTY WITH A POWERSTROKE? IF NOT THAN SHUT YOUR MOUTH!

[mod comment:] Everyone is entitled to their opinion here. However, disrespectful, aggressive, shouting posts like this is not acceptable behavior on these forums.

Chill, we do have a 2020 Ford work truck and you CAN not tell any difference in towing between the two. Bottom end torque is + 5% higher on the Ram other wise Identical, up hill and down hill Identical, DEF slightly higher with the Ram. Comfort is a personal feeling. Steering not even close when it comes to the Ram. Again all my opinion as everyone has different opinions when it come to all most everything. The Ford has 30 % more moving engine and trans parts than Ram just 30 % more things to go wrong. Also keep in mind the Ford cost more $$$ than the Ram.

Your pretty nasty with your comments . I just did 7000 miles towing and did not see .any noticeable difference from my 14 . As l said seat comfort is subjective . Ram did have 3 bed sizes which l thought we’re available on all models . Maybe only the half tons have a shorter bed The name is Nick not smart guy . You need some anger management and sensitivity classes

Well with no hockey to watch this thread will have to do.:p Hay boys.....pucks heading to the corner...elbows up!

I just traded in my 2019 F-350 Platinum for a 2020 Laramie 3500 Mega Cab. This is subjective, but I think the Ram has more comfortable seats. I also have the HK Sound System and it sounds better, to me, than the B&O on the Ford. The bed is smaller, but I knew that going in. I only had the 6 speed Ford transmission, the Ford was faster off the line, but I didn't buy the Ram for that. I like the steering and ride on the Ram better. I have yet to tow, but I have high hopes.
