TransferFlow Replacement Tank for Hemi

Maybe I missed it, but did TF indicate how much extra weight these tanks would be (with fuel) over stock? Wondering the hit to payload and how I should fit this into my calculations for future travel trailers/fifth wheels and camping gear. I've already dropped probably 100 lbs from having factory steps installed.

This is great news for you short bed guys.
Great so long as you don't have a 2019/20 truck...yeah, I'm a little salty about it...
What OEM tanks are there from factory? I have the 31.7 gallon tank (120L ;)), so a 46 gallon would be a huge upgrade. My truck is a CCLB, so does that mean the tank wouldn't fit since they specifically say short box? Seems odd to me that there's extra space but the tank designed for less space wouldn't fit. If that is the case, it must be due to mounting locations or wiring or something then?

On the replacement tanks page on their website, the only option listed when filtered by 2019 is the *COMING SOON!* one (P# 0800117435), but then on the product page it says it fits 2021-2024. This is also where it specifically says short bed, so I'm wondering about that again.

I asked, but they are at SEMA, so no answer back yet. But gasoline weighs 6lb/gallon, and the tank will add 15 gal over stock. So, 15 x 6 = 90 additional pounds of fuel.

Also, the factory tank is plastic and the replacement tank is steel, so I'm gonna guess (just my personal guess) that the replacement tank will add more than 100lb.

So, all told you're probably adding more than 200 pounds when tank is full. If I get better data, I'll update my assumptions.

Looks like it says 12ga there
Perhaps a typo from Teri when she wrote 10ga. to me in email. I also read that SEMA poster as 12ga, which makes some sense considering that the transferflow website shows the replacement tank for the Ford SuperDuty (Gas) is "built from 12- and 14-gauge high-yield U.S. aluminized steel"

EDIT: the "coming soon" promo for the new RAM tank on the TF website also says 12ga

Ok I agree it seems like they use 12 ga but they said this earlier about 10ga and slid plates ..

I’m way out of my league on this topic so I have no personal opinion, but below are a couple of recent quotes from Teri @ Transfer Flow (sent to me via email this week) that might be helpful:
“Our engineers have cleared the tank for all trim packages. The tank will not be lower than the current skid plate – no loss of ground clearance.”
Our tanks are 10-gauge aluminized steel and do not need a skid plate anyway!”

@Rockcrawlindude

For reference, TF's Ford Superduty replacement Gas tank is made from 12/14ga and the TF website ALSO SAYS "no skid plate needed." Considering that, I'm pretty sure that Teri's quote (above) regarding the RAM tank “Our tanks are 10-gauge aluminized steel and do not need a skid plate anyway!” was intended to say 12-gauge, and likely a typo.

When they get back from SEMA, I'll follow up with Teri to clarify.

Unless I am mistaken, I think the CCLB comes standard with a 50-gal tank ? Not sure how you would have a 31.7gal. Non-USA truck, perhaps?

I know these aren’t your words, you’re relaying the information. I don’t want to come across as attacking you.

I was referring to the few comments earlier where a few of us don’t think 10ga fuel tank is a suitable substitute for a skid plate. 12ga is even thinner @ ~.1” thick. Personally I don’t need a fuel tank skid in this truck but it would be nice if it worked with peoples skids.

Like everyone I'm on dirt roads or rough ground at times, but I'm not an off-roader, so I defer to those with more experience .... But to me a skid plate should be able to slide over or rest on top of a pointy rock and hold the truck up without damage. No gas tank should ever be thought of as strong enough to handle that. If I had to guess I'd say they were simply referring to 12 gauge steel being so much more rugged than plastic, maybe didn't mean anything beyond that.

Yeah, I did. Nothing back yet.

Mine's always calculated out to take 31-32 gal to fill when empty. Also doesn't mention the 50gal tank when I do the window sticker lookup via https://fcagroup.my.site.com/RAM/s/equipment-listing, only the 32gal. But it does have a line that says "5.2 ADDITIONAL GALLONS OF GAS", whatever that means. Is there a 37.2 gal option?

CCLB 50 gal owner here... the 50 gallon tank is not standard on the long bed, it is an optional extra. The statement about the additional gallon of gas is just what the plant puts in the truck to get it to the dealership. It's not an additional capacity to the nominal tank capacity.

However, a fun fact... Chrysler had tanks in vehicles such as the 90's minivans where you could swap out the vent tube to a different part number that could give you additional capacity (like 4 to 5 gallons).

*** BIG NEWS ***

The Ram tank is officially ready to go! The first production run is scheduled to wrap up on 11/26!

Transfer Flow has already begun sending the first round of pre-order invitations to their waiting list, starting with the customers who have been waiting the longest.

Transfer Flow is still working their way through the list. At this time, only customers who receive an email invitation will be able to place an order.

Anyone who isn’t already on the waiting list can email Teri directly at [email protected] OR sign up here: https://form.jotform.com/252956698570071

I’ve had some discussions regarding pricing on the new RAM gas tank. Just a reminder to folks that Transfer Flow’s RAM tank is a STEEL GAS tank, so it has a very different cost compared to PLASTIC DIESEL tanks on the market. (Compared with diesel tanks, Gas tanks require far more engineering and certification…not to mention the materials cost difference between plastic and steel.)

For a more apple-to-apples prices comparison, I believe Transfer Flow’s GAS tank for the Ford SuperDuty is an appropriate comp. Both are steel and both are for gasoline. The pricing is nearly the same (and the SuperDuty gas tank is, I believe, their best-selling replacement tank.)

It's expensive, but it's a great fix for a problem that many people have. And based on number of units they will sell compared to the amount of time and effort and cost they have to put into R&D, I think they are justified charging what they do. Personally I thought about it but will probably stay with my stock tank, I'm not doing the kind of stuff many people here are doing. I'm not on many long trips where fueling is a hassle, and here in New England I'm rarely more than 15 minutes from a gas station so it's not like it's a range risk issue. But if I was doing longer trips I'd absolutely be buying one.

I completely agree.

I did put my name on the list but will let it slide for now. I can’t justify the cost with my use currently. If that changed I would be installing it.

Firstly, thanks to the active support and momentum generated via this post, which eventually kept us engaged, and, helped triggering and driving the project to see the light.

Glad to share that last week I placed the order of the newly released larger Tank, after waiting on the list for more than a year.

I pass my many thanks to the customer-centric support exhibited by Teri, which streamlined the process from resolving couple of technical queries all the way to the order finalization, with extending my appreciation to the other behind-the-scene members.

Now, am awaiting the receipt of the tank and installation, following the long lead production and shipping prior activities.

Let’s hope for the best to all.

Just a heads up that Transfer Flow is running a FREE SHIPPING promotion, apparently through "the holidays" though I don't know an exact date. Could save you $300 or so, depending on where you need the tank shipped. I'm pretty sure you have to phone in your order to get the discount.
