Hello All,

2022 Ram HO. I have had an odd random tapping sound from the engine bay area when it is at idle at first start up and once engine is warmed up and idle. Not sure what it is. Does not sound like it is coming from inside the engine but I am not sure if its a belt or something. No CEL, trucks running fine and I have not noticed anything odd just the sound. I noticed maybe about a year ago. I want to get all your opinions before I waste my time at a dealership and they "inspect" it and say nothing is wrong.

My 2013 RAM 1500 sounded the same way. I noticed at around 30,000 miles. Well, soon after I hit 100,000 got a cylinder 3 misfire error. That was the end of it. Sold her for parts and bought a 2023 RAM Power Wagon. As @Wheelz said, start looking up videos on lifter failures. Sounds like that's where you're headed.

If you're worried...drain a little of the oil and see if you have "glitter" in it. But yeah..take it in under warranty. If you've done all the service yourself, be sure to have all your receipts together cause they will fight you on it. Heck..get an oil analysis and show it to them if the analysis finds significant wear...Good luck

So I just went on yotube and watched some videos and the noise is not that similar. More like Plastic hitting something but I could be wrong. Taking it to the dealer either ways to see what i can figure out

You all see my add ons....should I put it all back to stock?

Depends..if your in California..make sure the EO stickers are on...if you have a pedal booster..remove it and as long as it's not deleted

Mine is at the dealer for this exact issue. Pushrods were toast with 14k miles for some reason. Havent gotten it back yet

this is a radom tapping sound with no rhyme or rythum. Randomly. I feel if it was the lifters it would happen all the time.

Yup exactly how mine sounded
Did they ask you for any maintence items etc. I have a booklet with all I have done to it and reciepts of when i bought oil. And how long has it been at the DLR? They replacing push rods?

Mine had a plastic tick sound, it was the plastic fan shroud vibrating...if I put my finger on the side(drivers) the noise stopped. I put a strip of rubber between the plastic shroud and the actual hard shroud.

Bought my truck with 2500 miles. Started hearing the noise at 14k miles. I did my own oil changes. They asked for receipts. I have a dealer tear down video. They are doing pushrods and rockers. I truly don't feel that's going to fix the root cause of the failure. but it should fix the rattle noise I posted in the lifters thread. Im pretty sure A lifter didn't pump back up and allowed excess valve lash to where the pushrod moved out of the cup

So did some digging. Light clicking sound when the belt/pulley engages and it goes away when it disengages. I don’t know why I cant upload video on my phone but I’ll upload it in a bit

It is the AC compressor that is going on and off. Diagram here for reference for the mechanics out there 1744402513112.png
