The Other Vehicle

I almost forgot about the carnage report from last trip. Took a few months to dig deeper into it. 1) dead yellow top before getting it out of the trailer 2) Holley Sniper in tank fuel pump shorted and blew a fuse on the trail. The factory installed protection slipped down. Seems like a huge flaw but not seen any other reports of it. Lots of zip ties preventing that for now. 3) Atlas transfer case is on its way out but is like 10 years old. 4) snapped passenger side 14b axle shaft at the hub and took out the grizzly locker. Time for some 300m there. Fortunately happened later in the last day. Was still a great trip!

Ouch.

Wow, impressive damage.

On the fuel pump issue it looks like someone forgot to shrink the heat shrink.
I ended up sending an email to Holley yesterday and they actually responded same day to acknowledge my issue and say that they hadn't seen this before so you may be right. I also noticed the higher end line of these pumps use Delphi connector instead. Holley Sniper is at a lower price point than Holley. Think I will install that connector for mine.

Started fixing all the busted stuff on the Bomber. Current task getting the Atlas out to rebuild. I originally dropped it in attached to the trans/engine. I'm now finding out if I can get it out the back. Looks promising. I had to stop or would of ended up working on it late into the night on a school night. On another note, I think getting a lift was the best shop investment I've made in recent years. I wish I had it while fixing up the XJ. However because of working on the XJ crawling around on the ground, getting older, that was it. I'm not doing that anymore I decided. I've only had it operational since December but damn that first time putting the Bomber in the air I had an ear to ear smile that didn't go away for days. Then did a tire rotation on the Ram and never had to get up off my rolling stool. LOL Everybody needs a lift!

I've had a handful of bikes over the years and ridden a ton of different types and styles. Even had a chance to drive a Can-Am spyder a few years ago (gimmicky but still fun). But, I've never driven or ridden in a side car bike. How's the handling and performance? I'm really curious because I don't see many of them anymore.

It's a totally different animal, thats for sure. A whole new learning curve. Bought two 50# sacks of lead shot, for ballast when no passenger aboard. Easy to lift sidecar tire in the air on right turns. And a bit of a wrestling match at times, making turns at slower speeds. Ordered a "Ezee Steer" set up to reduce trail, which from everyones account, makes like the bike has power steering. Image.jpeg

6 footers have a hard fit in this particular "Harley" sidecar. There are many better options out there, in my opinion. Hannigan, Liberty, and a host of others. The price for this setup was hard to pass up. It will be fun once summer arrives. We don't plan on any long distance touring. Mostly around town, and upand down the interstate for burgers, and other day outings. It should fit the bill for what we do.
