2025 Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty Ready to Break Cover

So who makes the official call anyways? I don’t believe Ram denoted them with the generation term.
The vehicle body line code:
2010-2025 4th gen 2500= DJ
2010-2025 4th gen 3500= D2
2009-2024 4th gen 1500= DS
2019-2025 5th gen 1500= DT

So, realistically, when someone is petty enough to correct someone for calling a 2019+ HD Ram a 5th gen by saying that they’re 4.5 gens, they are also wrong.

I do. Funny, I really like it for everyday driving, but once plowing it is awkward to click it around properly while also operating the plow control. For plowing the column shift is easy and intuitive, no thought involved. I'd also be curious if the new column shifter completes a shift faster, the other issue with plowing is the forward/reverse/forward delay built into the shift circuit on the rotary.

It's still electronic, but when ZF demo'd the trans behind the Cummins (albeit with the rotary), in addition to skip shifts and 2nd gear no load starts, they showed unimpeded R-F-R shifts at low speeds.

LOL, I resemble that remark.

What’s New in the 2025 Ram 2500 & 3500? Engine, Interior, and Tech Upgrades

Unveiling the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty Lineup: Power, Performance, and Innovation

View attachment 80936

The Ram brand enters 2025 with an updated 1500 lineup, and a new CEO (Mopar Legend Tim Kuniskis). It has just unveiled the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty lineup, emphasizing increased power, luxury, and advanced technologies. While we have been speculating for years about what changes Ram would make when they updated their Heavy Duty lineup, we now know everything about it, and we think Ram fans will be happy.

The Ram 2500 and 3500 will be available in Regular, Crew, and Mega Cab configurations as in the past. Regular Cab models are available exclusively with an 8-foot bed. In contrast, Crew Cab models will be available with either a 6-foot, 4-inch or an 8-foot bed. Mega Cabs will soldier on with 6-foot, 4 foot beds exclusively.

All those little updates are great, but all that really matters is, in 2025, can the Ram truck lineup finally run full screen Android Auto?

I tried out my old neighbours 3500 hemi when I helped him instal his plow and it was awful trying to use that dial with the remote in hand unlike operating my CTD with the remote in hand.

Exactly. I ran for a while using my left for the plow control, which just made it worse, so I'm back to right hand control and spin the dial same hand. Not trying to make it sound like some great hardship, just was much easier on my last Duramax with the column shifter.

I hear of one person putting velcro on the end of the controller and the mating piece on the dial and just turning it by turning the controller. I can see that working everything but boss since they have the on off rocker on the top of the controller.

Being that it’s still electronic, I wonder if the column shifter will be able to be retrofitted into the ‘19-‘24 dial shift trucks…. I would love to have the column shift in my ‘21

The new trucks are different can bus so it may not communicate properly but thats just my guess

I guess I can just chalk it up as wishful thinking, maybe just moving some wires over and plugging it in, being that it’s still the same trans for the Hemi trucks… I’m sure there will be someone out there willing to be the Guinea pig and give it a try eventually, fingers crossed.

It won’t work. 2025’s are on FD CAN, and previous are on C CAN. Transmission is the same, but the TCM is updated for the new CAN architecture.

Well I for one am excited to see your write ups on how to mod XYZ and what you can fit from a 5th gen 1500 into a 2500 … guessing someone will try to rotary shifter and it’ll be an interesting read

Ok, thinking about it I'll give the plow drivers that one, but that's gotta be a tiny minority of the drivers of these things.

I had a cynical thought about the Hemi losing 5 HP. That's so little of a loss that it'll be an imperceptible difference in the real world, but many buyers will look at it and say "it's got even less power now, I'd better buy the Cummins". This means the take rate for Hemi goes down, RAM says "look, no one buys them" and uses that as justification to make it available in even fewer trims, and so on, and so on. I think the eventual goal may be to drive everyone to only buy the Cummins so they can effectively eliminate. The Cummins will end up as one of those "mandatory options" for $12k on every truck except a stripper Tradesman or CC.

What impresses me to be honest, is that the guy who has been in charge of ram for the past 5 years was able to deal with the issues as best as possible, and develop this new truck that has a lot of nice features and problems resolved.

Tim returns just in time to take the credit for years of effort from the last guy to fix many of the issues.

I can't figure out any reason to go back to the column shifter for everything, except maybe to save cost in having fewer parts. The rotary shifter is probably more expensive than the column shifter. What a poor decision though.

The winch hasn't been standard on the base PW since 2023. It was optional/package for '24.

If I am understanding the situation, all of the 2500 / 3500s have the same 8 speed transmission.

1sh gear a granny gear.

Routine use is 2 - 8.

The transmission has dual PTOs ( one on each side), so adding a hydraulic winch should be easy and not that expensive.

I am more used to electric motor based winch setups, but hydraulic winch is amazing.

I could be wrong, but this is my understanding.

Turns out I am completely wrong - read the other posts by others further along with the correct info.

The build and price is up for the 2025s on Ram’s site, looks like the Hemi is available for ALL trim levels at the moment
