Seat belt buzzer - shoot me…

So popped open the jscan and vlinker for my 24 ram 3500. I usually wear my seatbelt unless I’m in a parking lot, campground, or 30 seconds before I get to the house, I take it off- it’s my former LEO habit- always unbuckle before you arrive at the call.

Had no issues making the adaptation in my dad’s 22 ram 2500. Now this 24 is giving me an error below. I’m plugging the vlinker directly into the truck (not using the security bypass cable). I tried it with the cable and it wasn’t working either.

Anyone else have this issue? Maybe I’ll have to try alfa obd …

I was able to do the buckle / unbuckle dance with my truck, no jscan needed to disable seatbelt buzzer.
  1. With all doors closed and the ignition switch in any position except ON or START, buckle the driver’s seat belt.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and wait for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn off.
  3. Fasten and unfasten the seat belt three times within one minute of turning the vehicle to the ON position.
  4. Then, fasten the seat belt one last time.
  5. Turn the key to the LOCK position. You should hear a single chime, indicating that the BeltAlert system has been turned off.

I tried it, no luck..Then tried it again and it worked that time. I'm surprised Jscan isn't allowing it to work since it worked on the 2022. Thanks again for your advice!

Jscan/AlfaOBD don't work for the chime.

There was a post I recall someone did the buckle shuffle FIVE TIMES on the newer trucks and it worked. <shrugs>

So weird since it worked on the 2022. Luckily the 3 (maybe 4) worked for me this time. I wonder if the dealer scanner can turn it off.

Haven't heard anyone say the chime can be disabled with Jscan or AlfaOBD. In fact, it's always to the contrary (can't do it.)

ETA: Did a little poking around and there are reports that it works/worked in Jscan and works in AlfaOBD if you go to the instrument cluster module (select MY2023).

WiTech can disable the chime.

Jscan got back to me in the AM and they said it cannot be disabled since it’s a safety feature. Still screwy why since FCA obviously has a delete feature. I bought a Toyota year ago and made the dealer turn it off as a condition of buying the vehicle since federal law (shouldn’t even be but we live in a nanny state) requires either an illuminated symbol or beep (not both). Looked it up since dealer said it’s against the law. I told them you wanna sell the car, it’s not illegal so do it. I got my way.

Interesting, I disabled it with JScan on my wife’s Gladiator on the first attempt.

On my 22 I just did the key dance.

Yeah, that's same BS excuse I got from FCA about turning off the rear seat reminder alert (RSRA). The real frustrating part is MOST people have the ability to turn it off in their vehicle settings via uconnect (seems like a 3-6 month window of people who can't).
What safety is this annoying alarm providing for someone who doesn't have kids? All it has actually done is program me to ignore the chime. Seems more like an "anti-safety" feature if you ask me. I hope that chime I've been conditioned to ignore doesn't actually mean I need to pay attention to something. Sounds like a lawsuit against FCA if it does.
I'm pretty sure the AlfaOBD can turn it off, but I have JScan, and I'm not buying another tool for 1 setting. Even if it's an extremely annoying one.

Anyway, thread hijack. Back on topic. I did the seatbelt thing to disable my seatbelt chime too. On the road, I always wear it. If I'm in a field (moving supplies from the barn to the project site for example) I don't bother. Not like I'm going fast, or that there's traffic to worry about. Or heck, who wants to hear ding-ding-ding as they drive across the mall parking lot (if those even still exist)? The light turns on, that's fine. I never bothered to look to see if JScan can turn it off or not. The seatbelt thing worked at least until '23 model year.

I about **** when I saw that rear seat reminder come on and I turned it off in the uconnect settings thank god. Garbage safety features. Safely enough if you’re dumb enough/under the influence / don’t care to remember kids then you don’t deserve them anyways.

As for the seatbelts, it was a hard transition since on patrol training I wasn’t allowed to wear it, got off and I started wearing it since it’s better and most cops are killed in the car. But I don’t need to be reminded, it’s Called self responsibility..

Was able to disable on my 23 with digital dash using j scan. Had to use different truck I think it was 1500DT
Funny JScan says it couldn’t because they are the ones told me to use DT

I used the key/ignition method to disable mine. I also left my son unattended in the back seat. I didn't sweat that too much since he's 37 years old...

Did you tell him he’s a bad boy? Lol

What a crazy concept. Taking responsibility for your own actions. Who would have thought that it's not the responsibility of the vehicle manufacturer to ensure you wear your seatbelt (or don't forget your kids).

It's like expecting a knife manufacturer to ensure there's some sort of alarm to warn you not to cut your finger while using their product. If you fail to properly use a product, or take safety precautions, it's on you not them. I'm all for making these alarms available for the idiots out there, but let the rest of us turn them off if we choose to.
I've made a few laps around the sun, I think I can continue to do so without a vehicle manufacturer stepping in.

The part that makes me even more angry about it is that they are not “free”. The seat belt alarm, back seat sensor adds potential repairs and the initial cost. Just the telematics adds hundreds that I’m forced to pay for when I don’t want it. They gave a $250 credit for trucks being deleted during Covid. Its just real sad.

I worked directly with JScan (free subscription) to test their app on my ‘23 3500 in February 2024 because my truck wasn’t a listed option yet. I understand the 23+ has new software due to the new side mirrors. You can absolutely disable the seatbelt chime with JScan. ‘23 and newer you can’t use the click, unclick method. The owners manual specifically says only the dealer can turn off the chime, so you know it’s possible.

Maybe my truck is a unicorn, but I was able to do the click/unclick method on my 23.

Just to clarify:
The seatbelt trick works on 2023+ Rams IF IT DOES NOT HAVE the full digital instrument cluster.
Seatbelt trick does NOT work on the full digital cluster, but JScan does.
