Gear indicator option in gauge cluster?

FCA is passing off responsibility for QC

QC? I don't think so. More like you're a victim of the myriad software changes that occur during present day vehicle manufacturing in any given MY. And those same manufacturers have their backsides covered in spades. All ya need to do is review the numerous disclaimers that they spit out as regards not being responsible for changes to vehicle configuration, options etc etc. Caveat emptor...

when we built software there were specifications that had to be met .... somebody check that the software actually did have those features (QC) when we said it was ready .... so, you are saying that IF i buy a trk for $70,000 that the owner manual says has power steering and it turns out the trk does not have power steering it is OK with you because they said

"numerous disclaimers that they spit out as regards not being responsible for changes to vehicle configuration, options etc etc"

Exactly! And I'd be PO'd too. Just like all the folk that thought they was getting an integrated TTPMS system and integrated trailer camera support system. FCA dropped the ball and the customer is left to suck it up. Ain't the first time that's happened and I suspect it's a long way from being the last.

Since this thread has been inactive for seven months now, any new info out there or anyone know if there might be a function in AlfaOBD that can turn it on full time?

Haven't read anything. As an interesting FCA aside, we just got a Grand Cherokee, and it has a setting to display the current gear, and it works, EXCEPT the number is in gray, not bright white like the other active parameters, rendering it nearly impossible to read with sunglasses on. You just can't make this stuff up, folks

It would be nice if it displayed full time, someone said it says you can do so in the owners manual, but haven't found it.

I tried a few options using AlfaOBD and wasn't able to get it to display.

Tried once shortly after getting the truck.. didn't work.. haven't bothered since...

I have the diesel and don't see that on page 172, but will look through that section when I have more time,...thanks!

I see you both have the Limited and Laramie, so must be a package upgrade thing, I don't see that on page 112 either and I have Bighorn.

Whenever I want to find something in the manual, I just search for it in the pdf version. Looking for things in the paper version is next to impossible. Very little is indexed. I now have as much documentation as I can find on an iCloud folder so that it is always with me.

Well, I just went out to the truck to switch on the gear display. Ha! Although the manual says that the option exists, in reality it doesn’t. The options cycle around from “Right Side” to “Odometer” to “Favorite Menus”, with no “Current Gear” in sight. Yet another lie... It would be nice if we could trust the Users Manual, wouldn’t it?

LOL.

It's not OT if it's in the spirit of the thread topic.

Car wash or bumper bender pics clogging up a technical thread: OT

Putting fuel and Def in your truck in the What did you do to your Ram today thread: marginally OT

continuing to mock someone for suggesting it's OT after repeated warnings, priceless.

IMHO...

Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

I'm going to have to go back into my settings and take a look. I also need to review my current BCM settings against the stock file.

I would half expect the gear indicator to show where it is when you do gear lockout.

2020 here 3500 CTD

Level 2 Laramie package.

Cycled through the display option but didn’t find gear display either.

On mine is is page 112 of the User's Manual.

That look like the User Guide that came in the glove box.... you have to download the Owner's Manual for the page I posted... ;)

Strange everyone doesn't have this option. I just cycle the - to show the gear it's in then cycle the + right up to 8th gear and it stays on until the truck is shut off or out of D i can't remember which. You would thing a simple option like that would be on all models.

That was a screenshot of the version I downloaded from the Ram web pages for my truck. As I said before, the paper version is pretty useless...
