50 Gallon Fuel Tank

I would have hoped they would pay for the labor also if it really is a failure on the tank. I wonder if this has been reported to them before for a warranty replacement. If not and it is a one-time thing, I think they would pick up the labor also. If it is something they have seen a lot, maybe that is why they are only replacing the tank. Of course, it could be as simple as they warranty only the parts, and the customer is left to pick up the tab for the parts failure. I have read a few things in the past year that makes me wonder if Titan customer service has gone downhill a bit. $hitty luck for you for sure. Since I tend to be a worrier, I sometimes I think I should stay away from this forum and be blissfully ignorant of all the possibilities!

Tech said they haven’t seen it a ton but sometimes that’s where there is a failure. It leads me to believe it happens more than a rare occurrence. I wish they would pick up the cost of labor. Either I will end up doing it again, I also added 3rd fuel filter last time and one of the fuel connectors started to leak at the o-ring. Or I’ll just pony up the money and have a shop do it and if they break it is their issue to fix. At this point I need my truck back in working order.

I also wish I was ignorant to things. So far I’ve installed banks rear diff cover, monster ram intake for the grid heater, changed the y pipes for the radiator, added amsoil’s oil bypass kit and all kind of other crap fixing issues with the truck to either prevent issues or to address a failure point. It’s the car I work on the most.

700 was the low end quote. A ram dealer near me wanted 980.

Yeah, when I had mine installed in April of 2021, installation was about the same. The shop I used had installed Titans previously and were the 1st recommendation in the area so they were experienced. It took one guy with occasional help from another and some opinions from a third, 3+ hours to do the swap. I think maybe it was the first one they put on a 2019+ short bed CC. When I picked it up and inspected it, I had them go back under and loosen the fuel filter bolts and tilt/slide the filter over a little to give a bit mor clearance.

I have a 2018 ram 2500 megacab and planning to add a titan or sb tank. Will the AlphaOBD steps to change fuel tank size work for a 2018/Gen4?

Is it common practice for 4x4 stores or diesel mechanics owning AlphaOBD equipment and I could ask them to adjust volume? I am not keen on attempting that myself.
I don't know. If they have the ability they probably use something other than Alpha
The shop that did my brother's could not do it

I have a Titan in mine . It has a gauge that when you push the button it pumps in 5 gal amounts and the gauge which has 10 illuminated squares will have one go out per 5 gal draw. Your truck fuel gauge will go up with the increase. I have had it for almost 4 years and never had a problem figuring how much fuel I have left .

I was referring to an in the bed tank . Obviously you are putting in a replacement tank. My Bad .

Yes. my brother did it on his 2016
Did he have a megacab? And did he set it to 194 liters (52 gallons) or 189 liters (50 gallons)? It looks like it will only work if I set it to 194 liters even with a 50 gallon tank on gen4?

Running stock tires and not pulling a trailer but do have the Decked system in the bed with a retractable cover. I managed what you see in the pic. I just fueled up after getting close to home in CT.

I've been pretty close to the same results on 3 different trips.

This is driving from roughly 780 miles from KY to CT in around 12 hrs stopping every 3 hrs or so.

I don't chart my fuel ups so not sure how far off the gauge reading is from truth.

Here's mine in metric, 2022 Megacab. I used AlfaOBD. 19.76592 miles per gallon.

No, there isn’t a provision on the 2018 for programming a larger single tank. If you go larger then the truck thinks you have 2 tanks and the gauge reads ~1/2 of what there really is.

I ran the Titan 55 gal tank on my 18 and had to leave it at the stock size. The gauge works pretty good, but DTE isn’t worth looking at.

Interesting, because post #246 a 2016 was confirmed to be able to change the DTE. Did 2018 and 2016 have different programing for the ECU?

No, AFIK there is no ability to go larger than 32 gallons until 2020 when the 50 gallon tank was an option.

Multiple threads on this, lots have tried, and it doesn’t work.

The 50gal tank did not become an option until 2020 unfortunately

It work on my 2019 3500 Dually HO. Just remember if you check the treads early on per. Alpha OBD 194 liters is the maximum value you can enter. After changing allow the vehicle sit 20-30 min. before firing it up.
