4.10 Gearing Daily mpg not towing?

My PW with 35s is getting, at best, 9.5 (1400 miles on it). NOT towing. At the moment I am getting like 8mpg.

The Borla exhaust, and S&B intake are most likely to blame!

Finally some truthful MPGs in this thread, though your analysis is probably forgetting that your right foot is the number 1 culprit...

I was in the middle lane mostly, more just going with the traffic. It took some serious discipline. I usually cruise around 80ish

I think that is going to be my problem, I'm going to have to get used to only doing about 70mph on our shorter trips instead of the 77-80 I'm used to. My current truck is only managing about 12 on the highway doing 77 so I wouldn't be hurting my wallet much worse.

I’m currently on my 2nd tank of gas, and have so far gone 405.9 miles on this tank. Gas gauge indicates about 2/3 of a tank gone. Lie-O-Meter says 11.5 mpg.

This has been a variety of trips ranging from 2-20 miles (grocery runs, school drop offs, kids soccer games etc), with surface roads and some metro interstate. I’m mostly a pretty “gentle” driver as far as the gas and brake pedals go.

2500 Hemi, CC, 4.10, 8’ bed, 50g tank, 1127 miles, 10 days old.

@Jak6four What speeds are you running with the TC and Boat combo? I am going to be doing that this summer with a car trailer and TC. would be very happy if I could see 10.

Sorry for late reply. I’m usually at 60mph or less with that combo. In Kalifornia the speed limit when towing is 55mph and our roads are so bad I‘d rather not beat up my boat and trailer by going much faster anyway.

Gotcha. We are out on the maiden voyage this weekend with the whole set up. Dash said 7.9 on the way up. So far the dash has been within .1 of hand calc. We'll see when we get back home on this tank. 55- 65 mph. Lots of hills and small towns driving through backwoods northern Wisconsin. With the loaded TC and trailer we scaled at just over 20k lbs when we left. On a different note, I am loving the digital rear view mirror with the camera mounted on the back of the camper.

I will say this as I just got back from a week long of driving back roads at 55/65mph. The truck loves 55mph. I was nearing 18mpg with 87. I'm sure if I had the recommended 89 the range would be in the 19 or even 20mpg.

I made a trip of about a 120 miles to pickup a load of corn about 1200 pounds. The ret trip was on 2 lane 55 MPH roads an and when I got home the meter said 17 MPG.

Update on my mileage - I’m still in the 16s for highway, but this has been on mostly flat roads.
Around town has dropped to low 10s as I start putting my foot into it a bit more.

I'd probably jerk the wheel and drive off a bridge abutment if I was forced to drive 55 on a long road trip...

HA! It was enjoyable. I typically set up a podcast or audio book and drive the speed limit and not worry about anything.

Just did a 875 mile road trip. Got 15.1 MPG average.
With 50 miles to empty, the low fuel light comes on.
And when the miles to empty reaches 10 miles left, it just changes to low.

Just did another 400 mile run. Cruise set at 75. Got 15 MPG.
18K on the ODO now.

I'm surprised its getting that good now.

If I could gain near 3 mpg by fueling up with 89 instead of 87, I'd absolutely be doing that.

Yeah, but the cost per mile was roughly the same. I tracked it for a year between 87, 89, and ethanol free. Maybe my 3mpg was off, but not much. Range does increase.

I think the cost per mile was averaging 2-3 cents higher. That was before the gas prices went up so I have no idea on current costs. I do know that if I am heading into an area where gas is limited (like hurricanes for us) I fill up with non-ethanol or 89, whatever I can find. I already keep 60 gallons of non-ethanol for our small engines.

Ethanol free for anything old that I want to run without hassle. Motorcycles, boats, lawn equipment, etc.

Did the same trip except with between 1500 & 1800 pounds.

This time I filled up right before starting and stopping and made 19.3 hand calculated where the dash said 20.1.

On the way there it got up to 21.7.
