2023 Ram HD Builds and orders - Post and discuss your TRUCK order here! ** NEW USERS READ POST #1 **

I need a little help. I have poked around and have asked around as well. My question is concerning the “Trailer Surround View Camera ” option (XN1). From what I can tell it is an option that gives you four cameras and wiring that you can install on a trailer that will extend the existing Surround View Camera option that comes with the Limited Level 1 group (A69). So basically it is four external cameras and cables that you would install on a trailer to give you that “surround view” of the trailer. But…if you don’t have it would not affect the Surround View Camera option that comes with (a69). So to summarize you get

1. Wiring from the uconnect system to the rear bumper
2. Four external cameras to mount on a trailer with the extended wiring

Am I wrong?

Basically, yes. The trailer surround view option just includes the box of cameras, module, and cables.
If the truck is equipped with regular surround view, then it will already have the necessary wiring from the radio to the bumper, including the 12-pin trailer connector. The radio will even have the trailer surround soft key. If you don’t get the trailer surround view option, you can buy the kit later on, and it will be plug n play.

Thanks. That is what I thought but what is throwing me off is the connector on the left side of the license plate. What is that used for?

Tow mode (digital) camera that shows in the Digital Rear View Mirror (DRVM).
So the trailer surrounded view gives you 360 deg view of the trailer on the Uconnect display and the Tow mode camera gives you the view ( on the digital rear view mirro) behind the trailer only. They both can coexist. Do I have that right?

Also does the wiring to the bumper for the Tow mode come standard and the option only gives you the camera?

Correct. The tow mode camera also pans (digitally) down when you put the truck in reverse.

It depends on the packages.

If the truck has a package that includes the DRVM, you add the camera ($495)*
If the truck doesn't have a package that includes the DRVM, you add the mirror/Tow mode camera package ($995)*

* Last 2022 prices I saw.

Now, for 2023, the DRVM 3.0 gets you added side view (truck mirror) cameras.

Perfect! Thanks for the explanation…

Au update from your dealer yet?
I would think they may just build it without the 5th wheel prep and you would get the rambox. I am in the same boat as you. If my dealer can't change it to include the rambox delete they said the would just do a new order for me and they would keep the existing one when it comes in.

It will be interesting to see if they now have a way to build both.

The sales manager was off yesterday, he said he would let me know if he was able to change the order. Changing the order “sounds” like the best plan but I wounder if that will some how screw it up later down the road. I will keep you posted.

Got a VIN and Status D (firm Schedule, series number is assigned) today from the dealer. Specced truck on the 19th, signed paperwork on the 20th, and VIN today the 22nd.

My build is a Limited with the Limited Level 1 Group (A69) and the Trailer Technology Group (AVS). Based on the config sheet AVS gives you the Digitial 3.0 Mirror (GNQ) if I read it right.

That is how I read it. Im not sure you can get the AVS package and Aux Switches due to the location of the XA1 (Trailer Reverse Steering Knob). Did anyone confirm this?

AVF provides the DRVM and the tow-mode camera without the knob.

Depends on your needs

Placed my order last week. Will be selling my 2020 Ram 2500 Laramie CC 4x4 gaser once I see some movement on the build.Screenshot 2022-09-22 at 11.16.17.png

Depends on your needs.

Trailer Technology Group (AVS) gives you the Trailer Reverse Steering Control (XA1, the “knob”), and the DRVM 3.0 (GNQ) with the additional side camera views. AVF gives you the old DRVM (GRG) without the side camera views (best I can tell).

The old DRVM (GRG) is also included in the Limited Level 1 package (A69).

Assuming the order guide is correct (that may be a big assumption) I can’t find a way to get the DRVM 3.0 without the knob, which as mentioned above prevents you from getting aux switches.

I’m not sure we’ll be able to be certain what mirror comes with which package combinations until trucks start showing up.

They do have the aux switches on the 1500’s with trailer reverse steering. The other functions move to the radio I believe. Not sure if they’re gonna make it happen for the HDs. 6CCBE1E7-DD8D-4ECC-8ED7-0FE90F7F0FD0.jpeg

That would be great if it happens.

Not that we can trust anything Ram is putting out there yet, but the computer generated image sent to dealers before doesn't show aux switches. I'd rather have aux switches than the 3 blanks I'd get with a gasser and no air suspension based on the below image.

Been on the phone with the dealer. It looks like the trailer surround view package (XN1) is holding up my new order from being placed. I think I know this but is the XN1 all external HW that can be bought at a later date? Meaning, if I pull it from my order I can get it at a later date though parts
