Remove front bumper air dam

I have been toying with the idea of removing my air dam on my front bumper. When i change oil it sure makes it hard to crawl under it and i like to get down and check my engine once in a while. Exactly why does ram install this and what would be the results of removing it? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
 
Partially for appearance and otherwise to smoothly transition air flow around and under your truck. Some say that lose mpg when they take it off others say they didn’t.
 
Appreciate the response. That's what i kinda figured but just trying to get more input on it. Is there any out there that has removed the valance (air dam) and what results have you encountered. Thanks again

Also helps with cooling apparently
 
Id remove mine but it actually makes the plow mount look less obvious on the truck as i had to cut it for the plow mount and
 
H3LZSN1P3R brings up a good point OP. If you remove it you will have the plow mount/compatibility brackets visually sticking down. The CJC masks this by attaching to it. Some people just remove the brackets but others indicate they are there as a front crash aid enabling the vehicle to not just climb over another smaller vehicle it may rearend. YMMV as I doubt they'd do anything but some people are afraid of legal recourse if removed.... Take anything said with a grain of salt.

I've noticed that whatever airflow improvements it makes mpg wise. A leveling kit undoes it. Seems to knock 1mpg off if your stock. But if your leveled it doesn't seems to make a difference. This is a 3 truck sample size though. So. Maybe a coincidence
 
I haven't noticed a change in mileage or cooling performance. My truck is lifted on 37s so I doubt the air dam was doing anything though. I do like the extra debris protection the CJC guard provides the intercooler though. It looked pretty naked and vulnerable after removing the air dam.

I actually have plow mounts i forgot about the compatibility brackets as i removed them for the plow mounts lol

Oh so the mounts people have been saying come on the truck for the plow are in fact not for plows? Just compatibility brackets? They do seem a bit small to stand up to the abuse of a plow…

Yea they are not for plows but most plow brackets actually use the compatibility bracket bolt holes so you have to remove them
 
Appreciate the information Gents and the nice looking trucks pictured. I also plan on removing the compatibility brackets. We live full time in our fifth wheel and our truck is our means of transportation. I baby the heck out of it and if I can remove a little weight here and there I'm all for it. Mainly i just want to be able to crawl under it and check it out or for changing oil easier. When we travel, all freeway or paved roads my speed stays at 70 or below so the gas mileage saved hopefully will be minimal. My main concern was engine heating problems but with the way the front grill is I doubt i will have any. I know those compatibility brackets are a safety thing but they just stick down to far for me, also their just to dang ugly hanging there. Anyway thanks again Gents, good people here.
