2021 Fuel Economy, am I lower than expected?

16.5 is about average for freeway mileage. 12 around town.

It's much better than the older 3G trucks with the 5.7 and 4:56 gears. My 07 gets 12.5 on a good day with a tailwind.
 
Ok, tomorrow I'm doing a 400 mile highway trip up north. I'll reset my MPG before I leave and see what I get at my gas stop around 200 miles. Speed limit is mostly 65 with a 70 mph section after the gas stop. But I'll be driving close to 75 mph.
Light load in the bed. Bed cover on. Hills thru the mountains.
Taking highway 101 north from Ventura, Ca to Vallejo, Ca.

be sure to hand figure it too. I have found my computer mpg is optimistic vs actual mpg. driving 65 you should be able to do the whole thing on one tank of gas :).
 
These things are huge parachutes! I don't have a Power Wagon, but I do have the off road package and 4.10 gears, so pretty close. I'm in flat Florida, so getting roughly 12 mpg on summer blend, and 10.5 to 11 mpg on winter blend. Anything above 70 mph kills economy with this front end.

Set tires at 40/35 cold this morning.
After 200 miles, they were at 48/42.
400 miles, mostly at 75, some at 78 and 80.
Meter says 14.5
I did hand calculate on the first fill up and got 13.5. But that didnt count as I had some miles on that tank before the trip.
I reset the MPG before I left the house. About 20 miles city driving. Some stop and go on the freeway.
That and 75/78 MPH got 14.5
The second round was 75/80/84MPH and got 14.5 again.

You're not going to do much better than that at those speeds.

When I say I get 16.5 on the freeway it's maybe 72-75 mph tops.

I get between 18 and 19.5 with just the truck. Get about 11 with the TT behind it. On the highway speed at 60, 65, or 70 does not seem to have any impact. Also when towing I often lock out 6th and am always in tow mode. That also does not seem to have much impact. Most of my miles so far are towing and all of them are between 10.5 and 11.5.

Just FYI, The OP has a Hemi Power Wagon so your diesel is not a great comparison to his truck.....

I’ve been working on my throttling and stuff. Changing my routes and what not. I still get what I’d think is pure garbage for city numbers but I’m thinking it’s the path through my city I take. It’s littered with short stop and goes, stop signs or lights every couple hundred feet, maybe every few hundred on main streets. When warm Eco kicks on quick but I’m still getting below 8mpg averaged on city streets. On the freeway? It’s amazing. Jumps, even in 405 traffic to average over 15 a gallon.

I’m pretty happy with it. I guess it was just a shock to go from 2x a month fill-ups with the diesel ti 4x a month with the gasser, but I’m hearing it’s not uncommon. Maybe more so given my driving is less mileage but I’ve started making peace with that and enjoying it. I’m still hoping over the next 1000 it will improve, just hit 1000 so I’m starting my research on the oem oil filter replacement part so I can get in a clean batch of oil. For some reason stopped getting notifications to this post.
 
I'm lucky. It's exactly 5 miles from my house to my office. So I dont worry about MPG, just SPM.

Ok, drove back home today after putting my spare on due to a screw in my new tire.
First gas stop at 280 miles running 80 to 90 MPH. 14.5 MPG.
Last leg of 130 miles running 75 or less. 16 MPG.
 
This past weekend, Iowa to Ohio (the other Iowa), unloaded except for me, 17 mpg there, 16.5 mpg back. Driving 70-75 mph the bulk of the trip.

Around town is still consistently 12 +/- 1 depending how heavy on the throttle.
 
Last week's trip, loaded with 3 people and gear:
800+ miles, 75% highway
Overall Computer's Average (corrected): 15.3mpg
35" BFG KO2's
 
It has been my experience that these trucks like open road at steady rpm's. Stop and go, short trips will tank the MPG. but this is nothing anyone here didn't already know. Anyone have a pedal commander set to economy, and how that effects MPG? just curious.
